About the Event
For decades, Silicon Valley has dominated the world of innovation, turning out multibillion-dollar companies and leading the development of everything from personal computing to AI. Now, however, we must make good on the sustainable transition: a shift to green energy, circular manufacturing, and low-impact products. Companies and governments are under more pressure than ever to both scale up clean energy and invent the new manufacturing technologies of the future — and innovation leaders need to understand what ecosystems to look at for the technologies that will drive the transition. For the first time in decades, the world isn’t looking to Silicon Valley to lead the way, creating the opportunity for a new hub of innovation activity to emerge.
This Forum explores whether other geographic clusters will seize the crown as the global center of innovation — and how Boston and the U.S. Northeast can become a contender for this role.

Building the Biobased Future of the Chemicals Industry The chemicals industry faces a tough triple threat: It must decarbonize, build a circular economy, and phase out harmful chemicals at the same time it navigates the energy transition upstream. No other sector faces as complex a challenge over the next 20 years; but the chemicals industry’s success is crucial to delivering on the promise of the green economy. Biobased chemicals and materials are a potential silver bullet offering solutions to emissions waste and health — but have struggled to scale. This talk explores the role biobased materials and chemicals will play in the future of the chemicals industry and how innovations in the Northeast can accelerate that future. |
