This e-book explores the urgent need to transform the global energy sector to meet the Glasgow Climate Pact’s goal of limiting temperature rise to less than 1.5°C, given that energy consumption accounts for 75% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Drawing on the International Energy Agency’s Net Zero by 2050 Scenario, we discuss the need to reduce fossil fuel demand by over 45% and adopt low-carbon alternatives like electrification, biofuels, and hydrogen. We also unpack key carbon capture technologies, including solvents, sorbents, membranes, cryogenic methods, and electroswing systems. Carbon capture will play a strong role in the energy transition in addition to ongoing efforts in building out new renewable capacity, process electrification, and other forms of technology improvement.
