Deepesh Bista, Ph.D.

Deepesh Bista is an Analyst and contributes to the Emerging Ecosystems in Agrifood and Health team’s coverage of agriculture innovation. In this role, he covers innovations in crop protection and crop nutrition including biopesticides, biostimulants, and biofertilizers as well as the evolving regulatory landscape and evolving business models.

Prior to joining Lux, Deepesh worked as a research scientist at the University of Toledo, where he led an R&D project on nutrient toxicity in flowering plants funded by USDA and designed experiments on cyanobacterial contamination and plant nutrient uptake/growth. He worked as Editor for the CAMEL climate change project on an NSF-funded climate change and sustainability education grant. He has experience working on different climate change and agriculture projects in Nepal, where he got his B.S in Agriculture.

Deepesh holds a Ph.D. in Biology (Ecology) from the University of Toledo and specializes in abiotic stress and plant nutrient uptake protein. He has more than seven peer-reviewed publications, including a book chapter on various subjects to top journals. For his masters, he worked on Lake Erie, studying how nutrient runoff impact algal blooms. He is very passionate about sustainable agriculture.
