The grid of the future is being shaped by the strain of integrating new resources brought into play by decarbonizing industry, utilities, and buildings.  According to International Energy Agency data, in 2023, electric vehicles made up roughly 18% of all vehicles sold, 440 GW of renewable capacity were added to the grid, and nearly 20 direct air capture facilities were removing almost 10 ktonne of CO2 annually. Intermittent renewables make up most new capacity additions, while dispatchable power sources like coal and gas are slowly phasing out, creating a sizable opportunity for energy storage to provide both reliability services and energy capacity to the grid. Meanwhile, innovations in energy storage have led to a diversity in technologies to address various applications.

Energy storage isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Since no single technology can best perform in all applications, each use-case for energy storage requires careful consideration of both cost and performance.

In this webinar, we:

  • Introduce the technologies suitable for energy storage.
  • Analyze the lifetime costs of each technology across multiple applications.
  • Highlight projects that have successfully deployed innovative technologies.
