The industrial sector contributes to over one-fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions, emitting more than 9 Gtonne/y of CO2 eq., and is under increasing pressure to align with international carbon-neutrality goals. Given this urgency, inaction is not viable. The largest contributors are chemicals, steel, and cement due to fossil fuels combustion or use of fossil resources as feedstock – this makes the chemicals sector one of the toughest to decarbonize.
