What to Expect
Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project development is slowing amid high capital costs, policy uncertainty, and constrained offtake, yet innovation activity across the SAF ecosystem remains strong. Startups and technology developers continue to advance novel feedstocks, conversion pathways, catalysts, and process integration strategies that could materially improve SAF economics and scalability over the long term. While current market conditions make large-scale project deployment challenging, this period presents a critical window to evaluate emerging technologies that may define the next wave of SAF buildout.
In this Ideathon, Lux will explore startups developing differentiated SAF technologies across feedstock sourcing, conversion processes, and enabling systems — from power-to-liquids and biomass-derived pathways to process intensification, modular production concepts, and novel upgrading routes.
