What to Expect
In this Ideathon, Lux features CO2 utilization innovators that address a range of industries including fuels, chemicals, building materials, polymers, and food ingredients. Energy and chemical value chains in a decarbonized economy will continue to require a steady supply of carbon-based products as feedstocks or otherwise, but the source of that carbon will increasingly trend toward nonfossil sources, creating opportunities to produce low-carbon commodities with CO2 captured from biomass, industrial emissions, and ambient air. According to the International Energy Agency, about 15 Mtonne/y of CO2 is currently captured for conversion into value-added products, but the technologies that enable this utilization require technology and market breakthroughs. Participants will highlight their decarbonization solution, path to commercialization, and barriers to overcome within these industries.
This Ideathon will address the following questions:
- What are the current innovations enabling CO2 utilization in fuels, building materials, chemicals, polymers, and food ingredients?
- What are the major bottlenecks that developers of CO2 utilization technologies need to overcome?
- What are the needed policy and regulatory changes to further support CO2 utilization technologies?
