What to Expect
Healthcare systems face rising rehabilitation demand driven by aging populations, chronic disease prevalence, and post-acute care bottlenecks. For instance, global estimates suggest that ~2.41 billion people (about one in three) live with health conditions that would benefit from rehabilitation, and the need has increased by about 63% since 1990, a scale that is increasingly incompatible with labor-intensive, episodic rehabilitation delivery models.
Targeted rehabilitation technologies aim to address this need by combining sensor-enabled assessment, AI-driven personalization, and adaptive therapeutic interventions that respond dynamically to patient progress. This is because barriers such as limited clinical validation, fragmented reimbursement pathways, and integration challenges with existing care workflows persist. It is crucial to understand from innovators how they are advancing data-driven rehabilitation technologies that personalize therapy intensity, modality, and timing to facilitate faster recovery, enhanced rehab program adherence, and more efficient use of clinical resources.
In this Ideathon, Lux explores the next wave of innovation in targeted rehabilitation, examining how emerging technologies are reshaping recovery in areas such as neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.
