Cutting Costs for Cutting Carbon: Low-Cost Pathways for Direct Air Capture

Challenges in managing greenhouse gases are driving the energy transition. While most of our modern economy focuses on burning fossil fuels or using them for feedstock, the energy transition requires new sources of energy to power our existing processes and a secure source of non-fossil carbon feedstock. However, two key challenges emerge when thinking about carbon. First, there are some industries, like steel and cement production and aviation fuels, where no viable alternative technologies exist today at scale. Second, many products use CO2 as a feedstock and now need to find alternative sources.  

Direct air capture (DAC) is an emerging approach to solve one of these hurdles due to its ability to remove biogenic CO2 in a quantifiable way. While attractive on paper, in practice, the technology has been plagued with high costs and few commercial deployments to date. With a wave of policy support and newly announced pilot projects, DAC is stepping into the spotlight.  

In this webinar, we: 

  • Review some of the technology pathways used for DAC, including forecasted costs through 2050 
  • Identify key developers of these solutions and pilot projects deployed thus far 
  • Evaluate cost reduction potential of different technologies, and how companies can engage the market
