Varsha Sethuraman is a senior research associate at Lux Research, based in the Netherlands. She leads Lux’s coverage of biobased chemicals and materials. In this role, Varsha brings her deep technological knowledge in biotechnology to advise innovation leaders in chemicals, oil and gas, CPG, and other industries to identify transformative business models, capitalize on emerging opportunities, and navigate the complexities of adopting biobased solutions. Varsha has shared her thought leadership on the biobased chemicals industry in a presentation to decision-makers at the Lux Forum in Boston.
Prior to joining Lux, Varsha was a research scientist at the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research, where she developed a semiquantitative tool based on multicriteria decision-making analysis to help choose potential sustainable treatment methods for future riverine plastic waste collectors. She also worked as a researcher for the Earth Love United Foundation, studying the role of mangroves in mitigating climate change. Varsha holds an M.Sc. in climate studies from Wageningen University & Research, where she specialized in environmental policy. She completed her BTech in biotechnology engineering from B.M.S. College of Engineering, Bangalore, India.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Varsha continues to pursue her 22-year training in Indian classical music. She enjoys reading, biking, hiking, and spending time with furry friends as a pet sitter.
