In January 2024, Lux hosted an Ideathon on Alternative Proteins. The alternative protein landscape has been transforming rapidly, propelled by technological advances, consumer demand, and product innovations. While the legacy of alternative protein food products might belong to plant-based milk and burgers, it has since evolved to other categories like seafood, mycoprotein meat and cheese, 3D-printed whole cuts, precision fermentation cheese, etc. In this Analyst Insight, we explore the extent to which these alternative protein products produced via various technologies have been realized and showcase startups across different product offerings.
